The use of glass and transparent paint was
influenced partly by a love of stained glass, but also
by the incredible light in Suffolk. I wanted to work
with something more immediate and spontaneous
than traditional stained glass methods.
These pieces are a combination of ideas around
movement and the influence of light and colour on
mood. The play of light through the work keeps it
in a state of constant change, colours shifting from
fairly subdued to glorious and uplifting, sometimes
within moments. They are at their best with natural
light behind them - and work brilliantly in a
conservatory!
The panels are painted in transparent cellulose
paint on laminated glass. Some have added texture.
Each piece is backed with opaque acrylic and
mounted in a free-standing frame of American
tulipwood.
