Head On
This representation of the effort to win aims to
bring out the feel of six tons of pressure on each
pastern, 50 litres of air per breath and 0-50 in 4
seconds.
It is taken from imagination, as is most of
my work, and initially rendered as a freehand
charcoal drawing. The charcoal was fixed and the
paint applied mostly with my fingers and rags,
brush work was only used in part of the jockeys
colours. The lower bodies and legs of the horses
were deliberately left unpainted to enhance the
dramatic effect.
