As mesmorising as metal is, grease or the grease monkey
is like a mechanic at play. The materials incongruous yet evident
as one whole mass, tapered for the edge that is the mark of where
the frame would be. A frame is not here. The materials dextruous,
complete and worked provide a format, a hammered segmentation
of the picture.

The finish is uneasy, ebbing with grease and unhappy to be dirty
and ungoverned by a plea for tidiness. Slater knowingly is letting 
the work finish itself as it ages in our imagination and with time
in front of us.
