The break up of the suns rays a common theme in primitive or young work; challenged not by shape but the material used. Again Slater is forceful as he is stabbing by the blades as rays of the sun. The square gem quite literally the centre of interest. Spoken are the stars, emblems of weakness in front of the sun, far off and distant contained with in the rectangle of the artwork. The sun too reflects this the most primitive of Gods, syrup and wood dripped and placed to together to itch on the conscious of the subservient practitioner of worship. Written by E. Waller 24/03/10
