This works represents a fusion between
the brutal fragility of a wounded face and the
surreal. It was painted from a model and developed
over some weeks into a textured and highly varied
portrait.
As the viewers eye flicks
across the canvas
there are an array of brush strokes and colours. The
work is of a face that is flawed and freakish.
Perhaps even painful to see as it is so unusual and
extraordinary.
The work is surreal in that as if the mans face has
fallen off and you can see cells and tissue below
this, but some of the features remain
intact and can be determined.
The
picture is
symbolic as the message is that of the complexity
of the human form in terms of biology, cells and
nerves and tissue.
