HMS Anson HMS Anson was one of five King George V Class battleships built to counteract the threat from Nazi Germany. The first ship to be completed was the King George V herself, followed by the Prince of Wales, the completion of which had been delayed by bomb damage received during an air raid in August 1940 whilst fitting out at Cammel Laird's yard at Birkenhead. The third ship to join the fleet was the Duke of York, followed by Anson and then the Howe.
HMS Anson, was built by Swan Hunter, and launched on the 24th February 1940, She spent most of her time in the Home Fleet on Convoy Duty on the Murmansk Convoy Route and was transferred to the Pacific Fleet.

On August 30th 1945 HMS Anson lead the task force, that liberated Hong Kong two days before the formal surrender ceremony in Tokyo. HMS Anson was a Guard ship at Tokyo and saw duty off Australia from January to July 1946.
