Spawned

From Dartington lead crystal glass the inspiration came viewing the frog spawn which clung to the side of a local fish pond. The delicate and transparent nature of the fragile eggs echoes the same nature found in glass, as glass can appear fluid but be solid, it can appear transparent but yet be translucent, and placed in a certain light it can look totally opaque. Hand engraving texture between the underside of the piece and sandblasting to give that opaque effect on the underside and finished off finally with several stages of hand polishing to the upper part of the piece to expose the texture created underneath.

The frogs pawn is a natural subject not often touched on by the art world yet here it is,
its entirety floating in a black foreground. Yet in its conglomerate shape lie the answer
to simple cells design, mapping like suckers of a squid the cells are moon craters on
a moon or a living organism as the title tells us. Our feeling of re-birth is not fully
understood, and plastic glass or solid transparent and yet translucent is a remarkable
achievement in mass and steady growth. The shape in its entirety off balance and
unfinished, is still growing. Again this subject matter is as organic as an Attenborough
nature program, yet frozen in time as a very unusual sculpture. is this something you
would see on Television. Again D. Williams is working at her best, full of humour and
enjoyment of her making.
